SHE SPENT 16 YEARS SAVING LIVES… NOW SHE IS BEGGING FOR HER OWN: Lagos Social Worker Needs Help as ₦45 Million Kidney Transplant Hangs in the Balance

LAGOS – For sixteen years, whenever families in Lagos were overwhelmed by hardship, abuse, poverty, or crisis, one woman answered the call with compassion and hope.

Today, that same woman is the one crying out for help.

Adebola Caxton-Martins, a devoted Lagos State Social Worker, wife, and mother, is battling End-Stage Kidney Disease—a devastating condition that has left both of her kidneys unable to function. According to her medical team, her only chance of survival is an urgent kidney transplant.

But there is one heartbreaking obstacle.

The life-saving procedure, together with pre-operative tests, surgery, medications, and post-transplant care, will cost ₦45 million—an amount far beyond what her family can afford.

For nearly two decades, Adebola dedicated her life to serving others, standing beside the vulnerable when they had nowhere else to turn. She spent years helping people rebuild their lives, never imagining that one day she would become the one desperately in need of a helping hand.

Sadly, time is no longer on her side.

Despite the generosity of a few compassionate Nigerians, only about 7 percent of the required funds has been raised, leaving a staggering ₦41.724 million still needed. Every passing day increases the risk to her life.

Now, Adebola is appealing directly to the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Government, corporate organisations, philanthropists, and kind-hearted Nigerians to help save her life.

Her colleagues, who have worked alongside her over the years, describe the situation as both painful and urgent.

> “She has always been there for others in their moments of despair. Today, she needs all of us to stand with her. This is our opportunity to give back to someone who has devoted her life to serving humanity.”

The Medical Support Committee overseeing her case has assured donors of complete transparency. Medical reports, hospital estimates, and treatment plans are available for verification upon request.

Even the smallest contribution could make the difference between life and death. While ₦50,000 can fund a single dialysis session, ₦200,000 can sustain dialysis treatment for an entire month as she awaits the transplant.
