BREAKING: Jandor Bows Out of 2027 Lagos Governorship Race, Backs Party Unity After Tinubu Endorses Hamzat

In a dramatic political development within the All Progressives Congress (APC), Lagos politician Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has officially withdrawn from the 2027 Lagos State gubernatorial race, citing party unity and alignment with leadership decisions as key reasons for his move.

In a statement released on April 30, 2026, Jandor disclosed that he had earlier taken concrete steps toward his governorship ambition by purchasing the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms under the APC platform. He noted that the decision was driven by wide consultations, conviction, and a desire to contribute meaningfully to the development of Lagos State.

However, he said recent political developments within the party necessitated a strategic reassessment. Specifically, Jandor referenced the endorsement of Kadiri Hamzat by Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alongside key APC leaders in Lagos, as a decisive factor influencing his withdrawal.

“Leadership demands the capacity to make difficult but necessary decisions that prioritize collective interest above personal ambition,” Jandor stated, emphasizing that his withdrawal was not due to a lack of competence but rather a demonstration of discipline, strength, and respect for party cohesion.

Reaffirming his loyalty to the APC and President Tinubu, Jandor pledged full alignment with the party’s direction regarding the Lagos governorship race. He stressed the importance of party supremacy and strategic unity in sustaining the achievements recorded by the APC over the years.

The former aspirant also addressed members of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, a political group he is closely associated with, expressing gratitude for their unwavering support. He reiterated that the movement represents a broader cause rooted in equity, inclusion, and the vision of a better Lagos, urging supporters to channel their energy toward backing the party’s chosen path.

Calling for calm among stakeholders and supporters, Jandor described his decision as part of a broader journey in public service. “This is a moment to consolidate, not to divide; to build, not to fracture,” he said, adding that politics remains a continuum.

He concluded by appreciating the media for their professionalism and thanking his supporters across the state for their loyalty, assuring them of his continued commitment to the progress of Lagos and the success of the APC.
