On this momentous day, December 19, 2025, CivicWire.ng extends heartfelt felicitations to Distinguished Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, popularly known as GOS, as he celebrates his 66th birthday. Born on December 19, 1959, in Lagos, Nigeria, Senator Solomon has etched his name in the annals of Nigerian politics through decades of dedicated service, visionary leadership, and unwavering commitment to public welfare.

A Storied Political Career

Senator Solomon’s journey in politics began in 1992 when he was elected to the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Mushin Constituency I under the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP). His tenure was marked by proactive representation, earning him reelection in 1999 to the House of Representatives for Mushin Federal Constituency I on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD). He served two terms in the lower chamber (1999–2007), rising to become the Minority Whip and contributing significantly to legislative reforms.

In 2007, Solomon transitioned to the Senate, representing Lagos West Senatorial District under the Action Congress (AC), later Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). He secured reelection in 2011 and served until 2015, chairing key committees such as Capital Markets, Appropriation, and Integration and Cooperation in Africa. His legislative prowess was evident in sponsoring bills like the Sports Development Commission Bill and the Nigerian Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative Bill.

Beyond elected offices, Senator Solomon has been a pivotal figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), serving as Director-General of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council in 2023. He is a founding member of the Mandate Group, a political movement instrumental in advancing progressive ideals in Lagos State. His influence extends to grassroots mobilization, earning him titles like Asiwaju of Mushin and Apex Leader in Mushin and Odi-Olowo Local Government Areas.

Achievements and Legacy

Throughout his career, Senator Solomon has championed infrastructure development, education, and economic empowerment in Lagos. As a senator, he facilitated projects in healthcare, roads, and youth programs, impacting thousands in Lagos West. His role in the APC’s formation and successes, including the 2015 and 2023 presidential victories, underscores his strategic acumen.

Recent tributes from prominent figures, including President Bola Tinubu, who praised him as a “committed progressive and astute politician,” and Senator Tokunbo Abiru, highlight his enduring legacy. Associates and well-wishers have celebrated his 65th and now 66th milestones with grand events, reflecting his respected status in Lagos politics.

A devout Muslim and family man, Senator Solomon holds a degree in Public Administration from Lagos State University and has been honored with chieftaincy titles for his community contributions.

As he turns 66, CivicWire.ng wishes Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon continued good health, wisdom, and prosperity. May his legacy inspire future generations to prioritize service and unity. Happy Birthday, Distinguished Senator!
