LAGOS – A 21-year-old petty thief picked the wrong house in the early hours of Saturday, December 7, 2025, when he scaled the fence of a compound in Ojuelegba, Surulere, only to discover that the three occupants were professional bodybuilders who were wide awake, post-midnight pumping iron. What was meant to be a quick in-and-out burglary turned into a 52-minute “free compulsory workout” that has since gone mega-viral across Nigeria.
The compound at No. 27 Adetola Street houses three IFBB Pro-card hopefuls popularly known as the “Ojuelegba Iron Brothers”:
- Obinna “Obi Beast” Eze (120 kg, 2024 Mr Nigeria heavyweight champion)
- Chike “The Bulldog” Okonkwo (110 kg, two-time Lagos Strongman winner)
- Emeka “Smallie No More” Nwosu (98 kg, rising classic-physique contender)
The trio usually train from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. because the daytime heat in their un-air-conditioned gym is brutal.
How the Night Unfolded (CCTV & Eyewitness Timeline)
02:11 a.m. – Thief (identified only as “Emma” from Agege) jumps the fence with a small backpack and screwdriver. 02:13 a.m. – He pries open the burglar-proof of the boys’ living-room window. 02:14 a.m. – Emma climbs in… straight into a room lit by red gym lights, blasting Burna Boy, with three shirtless giants mid-set on the bench press.
Instead of panic, the reaction was instant laughter followed by a calm instruction from Obi Beast: “Bros, you don enter the wrong parlor. Since you don come, you go do workout before you comot.”
Emma tried to bolt, but Chike blocked the door with one arm while still holding a 180 kg barbell like a toy. Realising escape was impossible, the thief dropped to his knees and started begging.
The bodybuilders had a quick meeting (while Emeka kept re-racking plates) and decided: “No police tonight. We go punish am the Naija fitness way.”
The “Punishment Workout” That Broke the Internet
All captured on the gym’s four-angle CCTV and later posted (with Emma’s face blurred for his own safety):
- Warm-up
- 100 bodyweight squats (no rest)
- Emma collapsed at 43; Obi carried him fireman-style and said “continue”.
- Push Circuit
- 50 push-ups → 40 clapping push-ups → 30 diamond push-ups
- Every time he failed, they restarted the set from zero.
- Pull & Core
- 10 strict pull-ups (band-assisted after he cried)
- 3 minutes cumulative plank (he spent more time shaking than holding).
- Leg Finisher
- Walking lunges across the 12-metre parlor with 20 kg dumbbells in each hand.
- At lunge 18 he fell face-first and started speaking in tongues.
- Cardio Closer
- 5 minutes on the assault bike at level 10.
- Emma vomited pure water and tears at 3:42.
Total time under tension: 52 minutes.
At 03:06 a.m. the workout ended with the brothers forcing him to drink a full litre of water mixed with creatine (“so your muscle go grow small before you reach house”).
They then sat him down, gave him ₦10,000 transport, two packs of Indomie, and a stern warning: “Next time you wan thief, thief plate and dumbbell come train with us. No come empty-handed.”
Emma reportedly replied, still panting: “I swear, I go join gym tomorrow. This one don reset my brain.”
Aftermath & Viral Explosion
By 9 a.m. Saturday, Emeka uploaded the edited footage (with comedic sound effects and text overlays) to TikTok and Instagram Reels. Caption: “Thief enter our parlor think say na money, comot with muscle tear and life lesson. #OjuelegbaIronBrothers #FreeWorkout”.
Within 48 hours:
- TikTok: 4.8 million views, 680k likes
- Instagram: 2.1 million views
- X (Twitter): #ThiefWorkout trended No. 1 in Nigeria for 11 hours
- Over 25,000 duets/stitch videos of people recreating the workout and tagging friends “in case dem thief”.
The Lagos State Police PRO, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, reacted on X: “We applaud the restraint shown by the young men, but we still encourage reporting. Meanwhile, the suspect has turned himself in voluntarily… for gym membership application.”
Emma himself surfaced on Sunday evening in a follow-up video posted by the brothers, now wearing an “Ojuelegba Iron Brothers” vest, clean-shaven and already looking slightly less skinny. He said: “I no dey thief again. These guys beat me without touching me. I don register, I dey pay ₦5,000 monthly. My body don dey pain me since Saturday, but the pain sweet.”
The Iron Brothers have since offered Emma a part-time job as gym cleaner and spotter, plus free training for one year. They also announced they are starting a “From Street to Stage” programme for at-risk youths in Surulere.
Obi Beast’s closing words in the viral video have become an instant meme: “In Lagos, you no fit thief from people wey dey thief sleep. We go thief your laziness first!”
CivicWire.ng can confirm: the thief didn’t leave with a single kobo… but he left with abs he never knew he had.
