Wizkid Shatters Records: First African Artist to Hit 10 Billion Spotify Streams!
January 8, 2026
Afrobeats king Wizkid (Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun) has etched his name in music history, becoming the first African artist to surpass 10 billion streams on Spotify across all credits. This monumental milestone, confirmed today by industry trackers, underscores the global dominance of Nigerian music and Wizkid’s role in propelling Afrobeats to international stardom.
The Journey to 10 Billion
Wizkid’s streaming success spans over a decade, from his breakout hit “Holla at Your Boy” in 2010 to global smashes like “Essence” featuring Tems (which topped charts worldwide) and collaborations with Drake, Beyoncé, and Justin Bieber. His albums, including Made in Lagos (2020), have racked up billions, with tracks like “Ojuelegba” and “Come Closer” becoming anthems. This 10 billion mark isn’t just a number—it’s a testament to his crossover appeal, blending Afrobeat rhythms with pop and R&B for a universal sound.
As of today, Wizkid has crossed the 9.9 billion threshold, officially hitting 10 billion, making him a trailblazer for African artists on the platform. Fans and peers are celebrating this as a win for the continent, with Afrobeats continuing to reshape global charts.
