CRIME WATCH!!! Shadows of Impunity: Imo Police’s Tiger Base Under Fire for Torture, Organ Harvesting, and Killings – Amnesty Probe Looms as Outcry Grows
“Here Are Some Of The Atrocities Committed By The Dreaded Police Inspector Okebata Called ‘Kill And Bury’ Working With Tiger Base Owerri. Owerri, December 5, 2025 – A chilling viral video of a hooded survivor recounting horrors inside Imo State’s “Tiger Base” – the police’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit – has reignited a firestorm of allegations against one of Nigeria’s most feared security outposts. Described by witnesses as a “slaughterhouse” where detainees face starvation, cannibalism, and body-part trafficking, the facility stands accused of systematic torture, extortion, and extrajudicial executions that echo the dark legacy of the disbanded SARS. As #ShutdownTigerBaseOwerri trends with over 100,000 posts on X, Amnesty International Nigeria teases an explosive investigation, demanding transparency amid police denials and a history of unpunished abuses.
The latest catalyst? A December 3 video, shared by gossip page @gistsloverblog and viewed millions of times, features an anonymous ex-detainee alleging: “Inside the cell is called the mortuary… Human parts are sold to doctors and exported… After killings, they carve out organs, dump bodies, and pour acid on them.” He claims inmates pay ₦500 for a spoon of beans, resort to eating food wrappers from hunger, and endure rampant insanity – claims amplified by survivors’ testimonies of coerced confessions under the mantra “Confess or Die.” X users, including activist @TheAmenReigns, shared the memo verbatim, sparking calls for video evidence from police: “Refute these with proof, not words.”
This isn’t new; Tiger Base, operational since 2023 under CSP Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa, has been a powder keg since March 2025. A Sahara Reporters exposé detailed “shocking torture and killings,” with former detainees like businessman Edu recounting arbitrary arrests over business disputes, followed by beatings and extortion demands. In June, the Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) – backed by 38 civil groups – petitioned the Senate for disbandment, citing “widespread abuse, torture, extortion, and extrajudicial killings” reminiscent of SARS atrocities. Victims reported incommunicado detentions, sexual assaults on women, forced labor, and deaths like that of Japheth Njoku, whose family alleged custody murder despite NHRC interventions.
November’s tragedy amplified the din: Magnus Ejiogu’s death in Tiger Base custody prompted NHRC’s urgent petition to the DIG FCID, decrying “obstruction and disregard for hierarchy” – officers allegedly stonewalled probes, citing gubernatorial interest. Earlier, Dr. Fabian Ihekweme – ex-Imo commissioner – was “kidnapped” in Abuja for criticizing Governor Hope Uzodimma, only to surface battered at Tiger Base. Stakeholders like Chinonso Uba decried youth harassment and extortion on roads, defying IGP Egbetokun’s reforms.
Imo Police Command, led by CP Aboki Danjuma, fired back on December 4 via PPRO DSP Henry Okoye: “False, unfounded, and malicious” – a “smear campaign by criminal elements” like dismantled kidnapping syndicates. They tout Tiger Base’s successes – busting armed robbery rings for “improved peace” – and announce a new Human Rights Desk for complaints via CRU or X-Squad. Ethnic bias claims against Odeyeyiwa (Yoruba officer in Igbo land) were condemned as divisive. Yet, skeptics like @GeneralSnow_ demand proof: independent drug tests, GPR scans for graves, financial audits, and a live X Space. Omoyele Sowore warns: “#TigerBaseMustFall – this will make #EndSARS look like child’s play.”
Public fury boils over. X erupts with #ShutdownTigerBaseOwerri, blending survivor stories (@Neuton0001 on “Skull mining” ties) and warnings of revolt (@Davetech99: “Don’t provoke another EndSARS”). Amnesty’s cryptic “Our investigation coming soon!” – posted December 4 – has 6K+ likes, urging global scrutiny (@IntlCrimCourt petitions). Even pro-police voices like @BloodedDutchMan admit: Investigate the killings.
This saga exposes Nigeria’s policing paradox: a unit born to fight crime, now accused of becoming the predator. With Uzodimma’s administration silent amid IPOB tensions, the stakes are existential – impunity breeds distrust, and distrust, unrest. As one X user (@OyokunyiOkon) put it: “Enough is enough… Shut it down.” Will federal probes – Senate, NHRC, or Amnesty – deliver justice, or dissolve into denials? Imolites wait, haunted by the “mortuary” within.
CivicWire.ng, championing accountability in Nigeria’s shadows, stands with the voiceless against state-sanctioned terror. Our commitment to unearthing truths – from viral videos to veiled violations – fuels the fight for a policing system that protects, not preys. Join the call: Demand the light on Tiger Base.
