Hon. Monsuru Oloyede Bello, fondly known as Obe or “Mr. Project,” served as the Executive Chairman of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State from 2017 to 2025. Elected on July 22, 2017, and reelected on July 27, 2021, his administration emphasized inclusive governance, infrastructure upgrades, and community welfare, uniting the 119 diverse communities within the LCDA. Bello’s tenure focused on resolving longstanding issues, such as dilapidated roads and inadequate public facilities, while fostering unity across political, ethnic, and religious lines. His efforts earned him accolades, including the Urban Redevelopment & Infrastructure Award at the 2025 Lagos Grassroots Achievers Award, the Community Development Service Award from the Rotary Club of Okota, and recognition as the Best Local Government Chairman in Lagos by various bodies.

Despite facing challenges, including a 2025 petition alleging financial irregularities in project execution—which Bello dismissed as baseless and politically motivated—his administration delivered tangible developments across infrastructure, education, healthcare, empowerment, and environmental sectors. This article highlights key completed projects and those initiated under Bello but continued by his successor, Aare Taoheed Adebayo Taiwo, drawing from verified reports and community feedback.

Infrastructure and Road Developments

Bello’s administration prioritized road rehabilitation to address decades of neglect, improving connectivity, reducing flooding, and boosting economic activity. Notable completed projects include:

  • Ifoshi Road Rehabilitation: A 1 km strategic inner road, abandoned for 26 years, was reconstructed with drainages and street lights. Commissioned in September 2024 by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, it serves as a major economic artery handling 75% of local trading and eases access to neighboring areas.
  • Masashi Road Reconstruction: Repaired within Bello’s first 100 days after 17 years of abandonment, enhancing local transportation.
  • Color Seal Road Upgrades: Aimed at alleviating traffic at major junctions.
  • Sule Ajegunle Road Construction: Featured dual drainage systems to mitigate stormwater and flooding risks.
  • Other Road Projects: Rehabilitation of Alhaji Nurudeen Obe Road, reconstruction of Iyalaje Estate Road, Moshalashi Road, Dauda Ilo Road, and upgrades to Sheikh Niyass Street and Jubril Olabisi Street with interlocking stones. Additional drainage works at Falana Street (Phases 1 and 2), Majiyagbe Ogunti Street, and other sites improved flood control.

Projects initiated by Bello and continued post-tenure include the Ejigbo Ultra-Modern Central Motor Park, designed to reduce congestion and enhance transportation hubs.

Education Initiatives

Bello addressed educational gaps by building and renovating schools, providing resources, and supporting indigent students, ensuring quality education for all.

  • Ajaloleru Akinsanya Primary School: An ultra-modern two-story complex in Oke-Afa (Ilamoshe Ward), commissioned on June 11, 2024, by Lagos Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat. It includes 12 classrooms, staff offices, management facilities, toilets, ceiling fans, and enrolled over 350 pupils within three months, offering free uniforms and bags to compete with private schools.
  • Aisya at Jalu Nor Primary School: Completed and equipped for enhanced learning.
  • Premium School Construction: A fully completed facility to support educational access.
  • General Renovations: Upgrades to existing primary and secondary schools, provision of furniture, learning materials, and distribution of GCE forms to indigent students.

Bello’s administration constructed at least two schools and initiated a third, focusing on safety and accessibility for children in high-traffic areas.

Healthcare Enhancements

Healthcare was a cornerstone, with modernizations and outreaches benefiting thousands.

  • Primary Health Centers (PHCs): Rehabilitation of four centers from abandoned states within the first 100 days, including the Premium Health Care Center at Morning Star and Atashi Al PHC. Equipped with essential medical tools and supported free outreaches for over 1,000 residents.
  • Maternity and Community Programs: Distribution of maternity packs and COVID-19 palliatives, including food, cash, and materials to vulnerable groups across tribes and religions.

Empowerment and Community Development

Bello empowered youth, women, and vulnerable groups while promoting environmental and security initiatives.

  • Youth and Sports: Rehabilitation of playing grounds, community sports programs, and skill acquisition to reduce unemployment.
  • Women and Artisans Support: Vocational training, start-up kits, financial aid, and ₦40 million in cash transfers to widows and indigents.
  • Community Facilities: Construction of a storey building for the Community Development Committee (CDC) and a canteen/office space for agencies.
  • Environmental Efforts: Sanitation drives, beautification, and agriculture initiatives across the six wards (Aigbaka, Ailegun, Fadu, Ifoshi, Ilamoshe, Oke-Afa).

Administrative and Legacy Projects

  • Ultra-Modern Council Secretariat (Nurudeen Obe Complex): Commissioned on July 23, 2025, as a hub for governance and investment, symbolizing unity and progress. Initiated under Bello and completed shortly after his term.
  • Oba Ojon Central Modern Market and Park: Commissioned to enhance commerce and public spaces.
  • Staff Welfare and Security: Training for council employees, peace-building, and security enhancements without incurring debts.

Bello’s projects, executed with transparency and community engagement, transformed Ejigbo from a rural area into a modern hub, as praised by Lagos Assembly members and traditional leaders. His successor continues this momentum, ensuring sustained development. CivicWire.ng celebrates such grassroots leadership that prioritizes residents’ needs.
