LAGOS, NIGERIA — As the 2026 calendar officially opens, the political leadership in the Oshodi and Ejigbo corridors has set a clear tone for the year: one of “Renewed Hope” and “Impactful Execution.” In separate New Year addresses, the Executive Chairmen of Ejigbo LCDA and Oshodi-Isolo Local Government outlined their visions for a year centered on grassroots development and increased civic engagement.

Ejigbo LCDA: A Call for Mental Emancipation and Voter Action

Aare Taoheed Adebayo Taiwo (TAT), the Executive Chairman of Ejigbo LCDA, delivered a message that went beyond traditional greetings, calling for a “purposeful action” among his constituents.

Under the banner of the “Renewed Hope” agenda, Taiwo emphasized the need for continuity and inclusion. However, his most urgent charge was directed toward the upcoming Permanent Voter Card (PVC) registration exercise starting this January.

“This is your opportunity to be counted, to be heard, and to actively shape the future of our community,” Taiwo stated, specifically calling on women and youth to lead the charge in the registration process.

His address suggests that for 2026, the administration’s priority is a mixture of physical progress and the “mental emancipation” of the electorate to participate in governance.

Oshodi-Isolo: Consolidating the Second-Term Mandate

In neighboring Oshodi-Isolo, Otunba Kehinde Oloyede-Almaroof ushered in the year with the confidence of a leader recently handed a fresh four-year mandate. Expressing gratitude for his re-election, Almaroof signaled that 2026 will be a year of tangible delivery.

The Chairman committed his administration to the execution of “life-impacting projects,” promising to realize goals that remained on the horizon in the previous year. His message focused on:

  • Infrastructure Continuity: Transforming the face of the council area through ongoing projects.

  • Administrative Excellence: Commending the staff of the local government for the support that secured his administration’s return.

“Our re-election is a testament to our partnership,” Almaroof noted, urging residents to maintain their support to ensure the successful delivery of the council’s 2026 milestones.

Common Ground: Unity and Progress

While their specific priorities differ—with Taiwo focusing on civic participation and Almaroof on project execution—both leaders echoed a singular theme: Unity. As Lagos enters 2026, the messaging from these two key local governments suggests a coordinated push toward grassroots stabilization and ensuring that the dividends of democracy are felt directly by the residents.
