Oshodi Clean Up 2.0: A United Community Takes Bold Steps Toward a Cleaner Future

In a inspiring display of community spirit, residents, youths, traders, and leaders of Oshodi, Lagos, came together on December 18, 2025, for the highly anticipated Oshodi Clean Up 2.0. The event, held at the Oshodi Local Government premises starting at 8:00 AM, marked a significant milestone in promoting environmental cleanliness, unity, and shared responsibility.

Organized in collaboration with the Lagos State Youth Parliament, Oshodi Tertiary Students Association (OTSA), and the Rotaract Club of Ewutuntun, the initiative built on the success of previous efforts to foster a healthier and more dignified Oshodi. The cleanup was preceded by a nine-day advocacy campaign, featuring daily messages that emphasized themes such as “Cleanliness is a shared responsibility — it safeguards our collective well-being,” “Cleanliness is next to godliness,” and “Sustaining cleanliness is greater than starting it.” These messages encouraged proper waste disposal, daily maintenance of personal spaces, and community participation to protect health, neighbors, and future generations.

Volunteers and youths arrived with high energy, equipped with brooms, gloves, and a commitment to change. Residents and traders cooperated by clearing their surroundings and supporting the exercise, while community leaders and partners provided guidance and resources. The event focused not just on immediate cleaning but on instilling long-term habits, with participants urged to “clean your corner,” “stop improper dumping,” and “inspire someone to take one positive action today.”

Social media buzzed with advocacy reels and posts in the lead-up, showcasing motivational videos and graphics that rallied support. For instance, one reel featured a pledge from Olaniyan Suliat Anike – Keji of Lagos – to work toward a cleaner environment, underscoring the event’s spiritual and communal dimensions. The final anticipation post declared, “This is more than a clean-up — it is a statement that Oshodi cares,” inviting everyone to bring their energy, friends, voice, and commitment.

Post-event, an appreciation message circulated widely, expressing deep gratitude to all involved: “Your participation proves that when a community comes together with a shared purpose, real change is possible. Oshodi Clean Up 2.0 was not just about cleaning our environment; it was about unity, responsibility, and hope for a cleaner future.” It highlighted the collective effort in taking “a bold step toward a cleaner, healthier, and more dignified Oshodi.”

While specific metrics on waste collected or areas covered were not immediately available, the event’s success is evident in the widespread participation and positive feedback. It aligns with broader Lagos State initiatives for environmental sanitation, reinforcing the message that cleanliness is a daily duty for sustainable progress.

CivicWire.ng commends the organizers and participants for this impactful initiative. As Oshodi moves forward, such efforts serve as a model for other communities in Lagos and beyond.
